Uncle Kadir (Farah’s Dad) and Uncle Howie (Emily’s Dad) are both retired. They often goes fishing during their free times and bring back their catch to cook for us. Uncle Kadir said he knew some secret spots around Batu Ferringhi where there are plenty of kerapu and sembilang. Last week they caught 7 hand size kerapu and 1 sembilang weighs around 1 kati, and decided to cook us dinner. Sarah (Emily’s neighbour) suggested we invites Aishah who had just came to stay with her grandfather, Encik Wahidin at the kampong behind our apartment. Her parents stay in Sauk, Kuala Kangsar and just yesterday, Uncle Howie who was on the way back from Ipoh dropped by their home to fetch Aishah here.

So Emily, Sarah and Aishah went in Uncle Howie’s car to Farah’s home at Fettes Park for dinner that evening. We arrived at around 7.00pm and Uncle Kadir was still busy cooking. So we played around with Farah’s cat name Bonny, who is hyperactive and naughty as well. She likes to bite and scratch our handbags. Farah also has a hamster name Tommy who is very tiny and old.

During dinner Uncle Howie talk about the coming SABM Youth Workshop which is going to be held on the 15th Nov.’09 at Hu Yew Seah Hall along Madras Lane. He said we are very lucky to be friends even though we are of different backgrounds. He said many Malaysians do not have friends from other races and therefore do not understand each other history, culture and tradition. They keep to their own race and tend to become racist when they grow up and cannot recognise or identify that we are all Malaysian. They failed to see that a multi-ethnic, multi-faith and multi-cultural society not only can exist together but will bring about a beautiful and prosperous nation that we all as Malaysian can be proud of.

So we all decided to join the SABM Youth Workshop hoping to meet other youths who will share their experience on friendship with other races as much as we will like to share ours. However we may have a problem with Farah and Sarah application for the workshop. Both are only 15+ and the age requirement is minimum 17. We wonder if the SABM people can help us to register Farah and Sarah so we all can go to the workshop as one Anak Bangsa Malaysia.

We all enjoyed the dinner very much. The ikan kerapu masak halia and sambal sembilang were very tasty. So far Uncle Kadir has never failed to charm us with his mamak cooking. He promised to take us to one of his secret spot on one of his fishing trip one day. We all are looking forward to that as well as to the dinner that shall follows.

Nota: Emily Ng tinggal disebuah kondominium di Pulau Pinang. Masing-masing terpisah dengan masyarakat sekeliling disebabkan keadaan, tetapi mereka disatukan dengan semangat bahawa mereka semua adalah anak bangsa Malaysia.

Sertai SABM Roadshow yang akan berlangsung pada 15 November ini di Pulau Pinang. Dan nantikan pelancarannya di Perak bulan depan.
